Amazing Atlanta

Atlanta, with its rich history, vibrant culture, and numerous attractions, is a fantastic destination for a family trip. Atlanta was originally founded as the terminus of a major state-sponsored railroad. Its name derives from that of the Western and Atlantic Railroad's local depot. During the American Civil War it was a strategic base for the confederate army, famously burned to the ground, during General Sherman's March to the Sea, in November 1864. But the city rebounded dramatically, becoming a national industrial centre and the unofficial capital of the 'New South'. Later, during the 1950s and 1960s, it became a major base for the American Civil Rights Movement, with Martin Luther King Junior, Ralph Abernathy, and many other locals becoming prominent figures in the movement's leadership.

Today, it's the state capital of Georgia, an economic hub and home of Coca Cola. Hosting the Olympic Games in 1996 brought the city firmly onto the World Stage. Its development and diversity is promoted in the Netflix reboot of Dynasty, which relocated from Denver to Atlanta. Situated among the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains at an elevation of just over 300 metres above sea level, Atlanta has rolling hills, lush greenery, and plenty of pretty parks. It has the densest urban tree coverage of any major city in the United States. Industry here is also diverse, including transportation, aerospace, logistics, healthcare, news and media operations, film and television production, information technology, finance, and biomedical research and public policy.
